Strategic Solutions and Subject Matter Expertise for the Biodefense and Pharmaceutical Research Communities.

OUR CAPABILITIES

MOLECULAR DIAGNOSTICS

Disease treatment and cure are directly associated with the time required for disease diagnosis. The more rapid, specific, and sensitive the diagnostic tool, the more successful patient treatment and outcome will be. Our published and hands-on experience includes meta-genomic and proteomic-driven biomarker discovery and validation, development of molecular assays, and Next Generation Automated Biodetection operational testing and evaluation.

ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE & THERAPEUTIC DRUG DESIGN

The emergence of drug-resistant organisms is undermining the ability to treat infections. For nearly 10 years, we have assisted stakeholders to enhance domestic and international capacities to prevent and contain outbreaks of antibiotic-resistant infections; maintain the efficacy of current and new antibiotics; and develop and deploy next-generation diagnostics, antibiotics, vaccines, and other therapeutics.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY PROPOSAL REVIEW

Securing competitive funding for research and development from federal and private agencies is daunting.  Failure to craft proposals and strategies that convey clear alignment to agency mission goals is detrimental to success. We maintain over a decade of experience in guiding funding decisions to the NIH, DHS and DoD, and provide guidance to our clients to help secure federal and private funding.

NATIONAL SECURITY

We work alongside federal agencies, private industry, and research universities to prepare for and defend against biological threats, whether as weaponized agents or new and emerging endemic threats. Our experience spans nearly two decades informing clients on biosurveillance and bio-detection strategies, therapeutic and vaccine development requirements, and biotechnology development and deployment recommendations. Our efforts also extend to form policy positions that affect defense and healthcare appropriations.

AEROSPACE

Microgravity and anaerobic environments drive biological systems and biopharmaceutical manufacturing to operate differently than on Earth, including wound healing, tissue regeneration, and neuronal development. These phenomena can be exploited to find cures for traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries and bone metabolic diseases, such as osteoporosis. In collaboration with private industry, we are seeking to better understand these biological events in space for application here at home.

VENTURE CAPITAL INVESTMENT

Knowledge transfer seeks to organize, create, capture and distribute knowledge and ensure its availability to users. Our team plays a critical role to inform our VC teaming partners in investment decisions to help insure their financial profitability. Our success pulls from 15 years experience in guiding funding decisions from the NIH, DHS, DoD, and multiple private entities. Our skill sets span from BAA and RFP preparation to proposal writing and proposal review.

BRAIN HEALTH
Concerns affecting the functioning, readiness and optimal health of our nation’s returning service members (i.e., readjustment, depression, posttraumatic stress, anxiety, and substance misuse) have military leadership searching for answers to improve understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.  We support the Pentagon to focus on Traumatic Brain Injury and key psychological health concerns for health care providers and service members. Our goal seeks to enhance care quality, effectiveness and efficiencies; facilitate the translation of research to practice; and provide leadership, advocacy, and implementation support.
WATER PURIFICATION

Our rivers, lakes, aquifers, and coastal waters aren’t unlimited resources that can handle whatever we take out or dump in.  We support Bluewater Technology Holdings, LLC., to implement the most innovative water purification technologies available.  This automated, chemical free system destroys all biological pathogens, causes heavy metals to become inert, treats all types of municipal, agricultural, mining, and industrial water, at a rate of up to 4,000,000 gallons per day at a fraction of normal cost, while occupying a remarkably small footprint with minimal energy.

LEADERSHIP

Robert Caldwell, Ph.D.
President and CEO

Dr. Caldwell earned his B.S. in Biochemistry and B.A. in German at Centenary College of Louisiana, followed by the Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Pathology from Vanderbilt University, where he focused on Infectious Diseases and Pulmonary Medicine. After graduation, Rob completed his fellowship in Biochemistry & Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, where he utilized proteomic technologies to discover and validate biomarkers for several human diseases. He was then promoted to faculty at Vanderbilt, leading research teams to study pathomechanisms and therapeutics surrounding infectious diseases, cancer metastasis, and bone metabolic diseases.

He relocated to the National Capital Region in 2010 as Senior Scientist to support DHS and DoD efforts pertaining to national security, technology assessment and transition, and allocation of federal funds for basic and applied research that impact the U.S. Warfighter as well as public health.

Rob has authored more than two dozen scientific publications and textbook chapters, and has presented several dozen platform presentations, both domestically and abroad.
